Google takes down HuddleChat

There was a few complaints of HuddleChat, that says it was copying Campfire. So Google removed it and then put up the above message. The problem with that as HuddleChat wasn’t affiliated with Google just build by a few Google developers.

I think Micheal Arrighton had it right when he said

The right call was to leave it up. Or lean on the developers to take it down themselves. They didn’t think through their own legal BS in the rush to please Jason Fried.

Edit: he’s also gone and created a Facebook group to bring it back

    Hi Simon

I saw your comments over at Indiestartups and would like to carry on with the conversation. I understand your concerns with the current TOS and in fact I’m in the process of putting out more a detailed TOS.

As for your concern with scalability, Simplebucket utilizes Amazon S3 for hosting of our photos and so all the photos hosted through Simplebucket is running off Amazon’s infrastructure. That also helps out with content bandwidth and cost.

I would love to see you use Simplebucket for your image hosting for your blog, like in this post, your Google App image is exceeding your column width, and you can easily upload the image to Simplebucket, and immediately get a number of size variations that you can just copy/paste the html code and you’re done ;)
